Come join us for the very first United States Muaythai Federation (USMF) Youth Development League event in Texas!!!
The YDL's goal is to help educate Muaythai gym owners, promoters, sanctioning bodies and current as well as new Muaythai athletes on "Olympic" style Muaythai. Our vision is to create opportunities for our youngest competitors and give them the necessary "ring time" they will need to compete successfully against their international counterparts as young adults.
Our mission is to provide these opportunities in a safe, controlled environment where the youth have an outlet to test their skills but also to help develop a lifelong love for the sport of Muaythai. The USMF Youth Development League also has a very aggressive 5 year plan to help grow Muaythai correctly in the USA exponentially. With the very real possibility of Muaythai becoming an Olympic sport, the USMF wants to ensure that we have the best and most talented athletes in the United States to represent us in the biggest sporting event in history!
The emphasis at the YDL event will be reducing the risk of head trauma in young athletes while developing very import aspects of their game such as; timing, accuracy, balance, ring presence, etc and through scoring based on "Thai"/International Muaythai Standards. Kids ages 6-17 will have the opportunity to compete in bracketed YDL Muaythai matches based upon weight class and experience.
In addition, the USMF aims to also help standardize scoring and judging criteria in the United States to International Levels so that when participants fight in the United States it is scored as if they were fighting in Thailand or in Europe. Their training will be consistent to the way they will be judged and scored.
Therefore, prior to the YDL Sparring Scrimmage, the USMF will also be offering a Judge and Referee "Class C" course the morning before the Youth event. This course will cover both judging and refereeing for IFMA/Olympic Style Amateur Muaythai and cover YDL rules as well. Participants that pass the course will then have the opportunity to work at future YDL and USMF events.
